We kept Lila's birthday pretty simple. We debated back and forth about throwing a big party, but we decided to just do a family party. There will be plenty of other birthdays to have a big, fun party. My mom happened to by flying home from visiting my grandparents in California, so she made a little pit-stop on her way home to Virginia and got to spend the weekend with us. We decided to celebrate Lila's a couple days early so my mom could be here for it. And then we celebrated again on Lila's actual birthday. We wish we could have celebrated with all of our family. Thanks to everyone who sent Lila cards and presents. She was definitely spoiled!

First, we opened some presents from Grandma...
Checking out her presents
She loved playing with the ribbon!
Opening it up!
Grandma got her a quiet book for church. Lila looks thrilled about it! Haha!
Opening up her next present, a little doggie! Lila loves dogs!
I love her little face in this picture!

After we opened some presents we sang Happy Birthday to Lila and gave her her birthday cake. Actually they were cupcakes. Dairy free cupcakes to be exact. Lila still has problems with dairy. They weren't the best, but they were ok. Lila didn't know any better haha! She kind of nibbled a little bit. She didn't like the frosting, but we turned the cupcake upside down and she ate a tiny bit of the cake part. She wasn't really interested in eating it, but then she figured out she could smash it and play with it and throw it off her high chair and she had a blast! She even offered some to us and fed me some cake. Such a polite girl ;) I'm secretly kind of glad she didn't gobble it up, maybe that means she'll never beg for candy or cookies while we're grocery shopping when she gets older?
First bite of her cupcake!
Not really sure about it
This picture cracks me up!
Having fun playing with her cake
So on her actual birthday, March 4th, Paul and I went into her room with a bunch of balloons when she first woke up. Surprise! I think she was still kinda waking up, because she wasn't as excited as we thought she was going to be about them. She usually really loves balloons!
I put this sign up but the tape wasn't sticking very well and it kept falling down and Lila kept pointing to it. This picture cracks me up! I feel like she's saying "Yeah, Look! It's my birthday!"
After her first nap I put the balloons back in, and this time she really liked them and had fun playing with them, so I took some more pictures
I wanted to do a little smash cake photo shoot with Lila. So I got her dressed up and tried to get her to eat another cupcake. I think she remembered that she didn't like it from before, so she barely touched it. There wasn't very much smashing going on, but I still got some cute pictures...
Picking off the blueberries
Taking a little bite
Remembering that she doesn't like this...
Paul came home for lunch and we gave Lila the presents from us (I didn't take any pictures) We gave her a little tunnel and a pink stuffed animal dog for her to sleep with. We had some friends come over and play in the afternoon. That night we had Lila's favorite food... omelettes. We tried giving her a cupcake without frosting to see if she would like it better, but she didn't. We just had fun playing with her. After she went to bed, we went through and looked at all the pictures of Lila from the last year. I cried and Paul laughed at me. But we had a great time celebrating her birthday!
HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY OUR SWEET BLUE-EYED GIRL!
