A couple weeks ago Lila and I flew out to D.C. to surprise Grandma Wheeler (my mom). My Mom had mentioned a couple times how she wished she could see Lila. I told her it was too expensive to fly out there and that I didn't think we could come out anytime soon. But I decided to just check out some flights and found an awesome deal on Frontier Airlines... like REALLY good! It was too good to pass up. So I had the idea to surprise my Mom. I planned it out with my Dad and told my little brother, Justin. Paul had to work so it was just us girls that got to go out.
We left really early in the morning and got to D.C. around noon. We flew into Reagan International, which is right in D.C. They had to find a way to get my Mom out there to pick me up without her getting suspicious. My brother made up a "lie" and told my Mom that he had to go to the Pentagon Memorial (which is super close to the airport) to get extra credit for school. So my Mom, Dad, and Justing went. My Dad told my Mom he had a conference call for work and that he'd drop them off and just stay in the car. But really after he dropped them off he went and picked me up at the airport really fast. The timing worked out great. So we went back to the Pentagon Memorial to surprise my Mom. By the time we got there, they were done and heading back to the car. There is a tunnel that goes from the memorial to the parking lot. So Lila and I just walked through the tunnel and surprised her. My Dad was walking a little behind us filming it all. It was so fun to surprise her!!
Here's the video...
We had so much fun spending time with everyone. We went and saw some neat things. Here are some pictures from the trip...
At the Zoo with Grandma and Grandpa
At the National Zoo. My cousin, Juliann, came with us. But she was nice and took the pic for us!
With Uncle Justin
Lila LOVED my parent's dog, Bailey. Lila was mesmerized and would just crawl around and chase her. Bailey was a little unsure, but if we bribed her with treats she would stay and let Lila "torture" her. Poor Bailey! She was a good sport though!
We went and explored the charming little town of Middleburg. It has all these old, quaint, shops and houses. We had a fun afternoon with my Mom and Justin.
We also went and toured the Oatlands Plantation. We got to see the mansion and the gardens.
We went on lots of walks. There are some awesome trails in the woods just down the street from my parent's house.
We also went and saw Great Falls Park. Wow! I had no idea how beautiful this was going to be!
My Mom watched Lila and I went and did a session at the D.C. Temple.
Lila met some sister missionaries at the Visitor's Center and they gave her a "Junior Missionary" tag
Lila got lots of kisses from Grandma!
On our way home. Sad to leave, but excited to see Dad again!
