I've got the post-vacation blues. Anyone else get that? This trip was so fun that it's been hard to come back to normal, every-day life again. So instead of working on my piles of laundry I'm going to blog about our trip.
We went out to California for my brother, Miles' wedding. Lila and I went out the Saturday before the wedding to spend time with my family. A lot of my extended family lives in California so we got to see lots of aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. Paul couldn't get that much time off work so he came later for the wedding part. I was super nervous about flying alone with Lila. I get really sick on airplanes and just hate flying in general. I always take dramamine and knock myself out for the flight. But obviously I can't do that anymore haha! Luckily the flight wasn't very full so we got a whole row to ourselves and they let me bring on Lila's carseat. The diaper bag was stuffed full of every toy we own to keep Lila entertained. Lila did pretty good- other than having a major blowout and having a little scream-fest near the end. I had just expected the worst and it turned out not too bad. Whew!
That afternoon we went to Mikaela's bridal shower. It was fun to celebrate with her. That night we had a big Wheeler swim party over at Aunt Gayle and Uncle Dave's.
Sunday we got to visit the ward that I grew up in. It was fun to see a lot of people I hadn't seen in a while. And crazy to see how all the little kids I used to babysit are now in high school! That makes me feel so old. We also went and saw my Grandma and Grandpa Cummings. It was their first time to meet Lila. That night we drove down to the Bay Area and had dinner with some family friends.
Monday morning we drove the rest of the way down to the beach. It was still pretty overcast when we got there so we went swimming first. Once the fog burned off we went down to the beach. Lila loved it. The water was really cold so we just put her feet and legs in. But she loved watching the waves come up. And she loved curling her toes up in the sand. It started getting a little windy though so she didn't really like that.
Tuesday was another fun beach day. My mom and I went on a long walk on the beach with Lila in the carrier. My brothers built a giant sand castle. And some of them went boogie boarding and skim boarding.
Wednesday we went up to Donner Lake. My Dad grew up spending his summer's there. His Dad was a principal (hooray for having summers off!) so they had a cabin up there that they built. We went up there a lot growing up too during the summers. So it was really nice going back up there. It's one of my favorite places in the world. We had fun playing in the water, kayaking, relaxing, eating food, and playing on the playground.
Thursday we did some last minute errands before the wedding. My Mom and I went and got our nails done. Mikaela went through the temple that night. Justin watched Lila so I could go. He wins the award for best babysitter ever. Paul flew in late that night. So nice to have our little family all back together again! I don't have any pictures from Thursday :(
Friday we went down to the Bay Area to see some of Paul's family. We saw Aunty Nancy and Uncle Bill in San Ramon. Lauren and Tony came over with their son, Camden. He is so cute! He knew all his animals and the sounds they make. Lila would look at him and make some little baby noises and Camden would look at her like what in the world are you saying? Give it a couple years and I think they'll have fun playing together. We had lunch with them and then went down to Gilroy to visit Paul's Grandpa, Papa Bino. So Lila got to meet another great-grandparent! Papa Bino spoke some Italian to Lila and she loved it. She would just stare and him and smile whenever he spoke to her. She is 1/4 Italian though... so I guess it's in her blood? It was good to see Papa and hear all of his stories.
The next morning was the wedding... I'm going to do a separate blog post for that though, so stay tuned!

I can't tell if my previous post posted! Ah! Oh well.... I do know those "post-trip" blues. It is so hard. I've had them while my children were small and even know, especially with the grandchildren... so hard. I love your pictures and writings though Jocelyne... what treasures these all will become.... xoxo Thanks so much for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI love you all!
